Baby Birds Don't Drink Milk Burritos
In a rough and lonely spot in my life, I trudged back to live again in Lawrence, Kansas, only to find that many of the faces were different and my old haunts were unfamiliar. I moved into a small apartment and began to try and piece together what to do next. One night, I went to a bar and saw a wall of shitty, spray painted amps haphazardly placed in front of the stage. Below them on the floor were stuffed animals and other detritus. It looked like somebody’s childhood bedroom had exploded onto the floor of a public space, which offered me comfort, as well as an uneasy sense of worry for those involved. Were they okay? A few minutes later, three people approached the pile and proceeded to tear their instruments and bodies apart while managing to play some of the prettiest and most sincerely moving music I had ever heard. Somewhere down the line, I shyly introduced myself to the band and talked of my interest in starting a cassette label. Within a couple of days, we were all eating ice cream sundaes in my apartment and beginning the process of making the first Lillerne cassette.

Burritos is the fourth in a line of unique and ever evolving/devolving sets of music by Baby Birds Don't Drink Milk on this label. It’s also the most perfectly synthesized and coherent example of the different “eras” of BBDDM to date. The hazy acoustic guitar strum strum under a sea of chill inducing vocal harmonies, the urgent sandy pop hits bursting at the seams with beautiful blankets of guitar and echoey noise, the dark basement insect sound atmospherics with cracked guitars and percussive crackles and pings. Burritos is also more laid bare and and honest in its delivery, forgoing the harsher aspects of past releases and leaving more room for the moments of true harmony (and the real moments of harmonic disharmony, too) that have always existed in their music. Another personal favorite. First edition of 100 pro-dubbed cassettes. Co-released with Fire Talk (LP/digi).
